Taste and ageing

2020 is poised and intense, with rose petals, cherries, pomegranate and tobacco, lively acidity and a long, focused finish. It can develop for 25 years or more.

Vineyard and winemaking

The wine comes from the highest plot of the estate's historic vineyard and is named after the small 13th-century church that stands beside it. It ferments spontaneously in open wooden vats and is aged for more than 41 months in large casks. Often only around 6,000 bottles are made.

About Il Marroneto

Il Marroneto lies just outside Montalcino's town walls and has been owned by the Mori family since the 1970s. Alessandro Mori makes wine on classic principles, with spontaneous fermentation and large, old casks, and has made the estate one of Brunello's most acclaimed names.

Serving

Serve at 16–18 °C in large glasses, ideally after an hour in a decanter.
