Alberelli di Giodo Nerello Mascalese 2021 (Alberelli di Giodo Rosso, Etna) is red Etna from winemaker Carlo Ferrini's estate in Sicily. The 2021 has been rated 96 points by James Suckling.

Taste and ageing

Red berries, spice, smoke and stone, silky and precise, with fine tannins and a long finish. It can be enjoyed now and kept for 15 years or more.

Vineyard and winemaking

Nerello Mascalese from 80–100-year-old bush vines on a small two-hectare vineyard on Etna's northern slope. The wine ferments spontaneously and matures in large casks, keeping the fruit and the volcanic soil at the centre.

Carlo Ferrini is one of Italy's most respected oenologists and has worked with many of Tuscany's great estates. His own estate, Podere Giodo, is in Montalcino, and Alberelli di Giodo is its sister estate on Etna.
