Description
Gaja Gaia & Rey Langhe Chardonnay 2019 (Angelo Gaja Gaia & Rey, Langhe DOC) is one of Italy's most acclaimed white wines. The 2019 has been rated 95 points by both Vinous and Wine Advocate.
Taste and ageing
2019 is rich yet poised, with citrus, pear, toasted almonds and a creamy texture, carried by mineral freshness. A white wine with great ageing potential that can be enjoyed now and kept for 20 years or more.
Vineyard and winemaking
The wine is 100% Chardonnay from Gaja's vineyards in the Langhe. It is fermented and aged for 6–8 months in small French barrels, where the oak adds texture and depth without taking over.
About Gaja
Gaja was founded in Barbaresco in 1859. When Angelo Gaja planted Chardonnay in the middle of Nebbiolo country, it was a break with tradition, and the first vintage of Gaia & Rey came in 1983. The wine is named after his daughter Gaia and his grandmother Clotilde Rey, and it showed that Piedmont can also make world-class white wine.
Serving
Serve at 10–12 °C in large glasses. Don't serve it too cold, so its richness can show.
