Description
Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore 2020 (Grattamacco Rosso, Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC) is one of Bolgheri's great classics. The 2020 has been rated 97 points by both Vinous and Wine Advocate.
Taste and ageing
2020 is concentrated and precise, with blackcurrant, cherries, violet, tobacco and cedar, ripe tannins and fresh acidity. It can be enjoyed now and kept for 20 years or more.
Vineyard and winemaking
The vineyards lie on a hill near Castagneto Carducci overlooking the sea and are farmed organically. The wine is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese, and it is the Sangiovese that gives Grattamacco a distinctly Tuscan character among Bolgheri's wines. It is fermented in open oak vats and aged for 18 months in barriques.
About Grattamacco
Grattamacco was founded in 1977 and was one of the first producers in Bolgheri, long before the area became known around the world. Today the estate belongs to Collemassari, which has carried on its original style.
