Antinori Cervaro della Sala 2023

Antinori Cervaro della Sala 2023 (Marchesi Antinori Castello della Sala Cervaro, Umbria IGT) is Antinori's top white wine and one of Italy's best-known Chardonnay-based wines. The 2023 has been rated 97 points by both Wine Advocate and James Suckling.

Taste and ageing

2023 is pure and focused, with citrus, green apples, stone fruit and toasted almonds. The texture is creamy and the finish long and lightly saline. It can be enjoyed now and kept for 15–20 years.

Vineyard and winemaking

The grapes grow on limestone and clay soils around Castello della Sala near Orvieto. Chardonnay is fermented in small French barrels and joined by a little Grechetto, Umbria's own grape, which adds freshness and lift.

About Castello della Sala

Castello della Sala is a 14th-century castle that the Antinori family bought in 1940. Cervaro takes its name from the Monaldeschi della Cervara family, who owned the castle in the Middle Ages, and was first made in 1985. It was one of the first Italian white wines to be fermented and aged in barrique, and it set a new standard for white wine in Italy.
